Learning design and development events

What to expect

These events are highly interactive, in person events aimed at prompting conversations that support the development of effective and inclusive designs for learning. The hands-on workshop style is based on well rehearsed, well researched team-based approaches to learning design with a critical consideration of the potential affordances of digital technology.

All events are open to staff, students and patients.

These events are mostly held in GLT3 or GLT4, Warwick Medical School, Gibbet Hill Campus

Beyond Blended

Exploring four aspects of learning that can be ‘blended’:

  1. Time, pace and timing (synchronous and asynchronous).
  2. Space (place and platform).
  3. Learning materials: tools, facilities, learning media and other resources (digital, print-based or material).
  4. Groups, roles and relationships (teacher-led and peer learning, varieties of learning group).

Learning resource development

There will be paper, pens, stars and post-it notes to help create your vision of an interactive learning resource. We will explore the affordances of H5P interactive content in Moodle as this gives us an easy to use common starting point for building a prototype of your interactive learning resource. You should be prepared for critical digital pedagogy.

ABC student-centred learning design

Based on student-centred rapid curriculum development model (ABC design UCL). Using a game format, teams are able to work together to create a visual “storyboard” outlining the type and sequence of learning activities (both online and offline).

Interactive classrooms

A safe space to practice new approaches to introducing interactive exercises into group teaching sessions small and large. During this workshop you will have the opportunity to gain constructive feedback from your peers and build up your confidence to work more interactively with groups of learners.

Virtual patients and decision-making

Similar game format to the ABC student-centred learning design workshop, teams are able to work together to create a visual “storyboard” outlining the type and sequence of learning activities (narrative and decision making) required to create a virtual patient or other decision-making scenario. The first steps towards creating resources to support the development of clinical and/or critical reasoning skills.

Fundamentals

We occasionally offer sessions focusing on the basics. Ideal for new starters and those who feel they need a refresher session. We've identified a gap in the current induction experience for placing digital education and the digital platforms in wider context of student and staff experience. These sessions are relaxed and friendly to offer "ask anything" opportunities.

Note: We may offer these sessions online as well as in person.
