Physics, like a number of departments in the Science, Engineering & Medicine Faculty, runs its examinations as in-person invigilated examinations.

In-person examinations provide the best protection against collusion and other forms of cheating. For mathematical subjects, in which there is a single right answer, cheating is hard to spot and hard to prove in online tests. A number of students have also made this point.

As Head of Department, it is my responsibility to ensure a fair system for all students, in which everyone (including students, staff and outside stakeholders) can have faith. My decision has been taken to ensure the integrity of our degrees.
