Warwick Physicists win the npower Energy Challenge

Congratulations to penultimate year physics students James Iley-Hazelgrove and James Waterman, who were part of the Warwick Team that won the npower Energy Challenge on March 21st at the University of East Anglia. The team reached the final and delivered a presentation to a panel of judges and npower employees in answer to the question ‘How can we put the energy back into energy companies?’

The competition was developed by nPower in 2006 to develop students commercial awareness and presentation skills and the entries were judged on the originality of their concept, it’s affordability and value for money. The judges were impressed by the simplicity of the Warwick team’s idea, particularly as they felt it was a strategy that npower could actually implement and nPowers Chief Financial Officer said he was ‘fascinated’ during the Q&A section.

The winning team have all been offered internships as a result of their success and James, who led the team, said “We’re ecstatic to win this competition and we’re extremely excited to be working for npower over the summer. We’d recommend this competition to other students as it’s been a learning experience which has taken us out of the comfort zones and allowed us to develop our skills in industry, which we wouldn’t have done otherwise.”
