UK Japan civil nuclear research programme – phase 7 - EPSRC deadline

Export as iCalendar

Primary funder name: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council

Closing date: 15 Jul 20

Full text: The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Sport, Culture and Technology (MEXT) and the Nuclear Safety Research Association (NSRA), invite proposals for the phase 7 of their UK Japan civil nuclear research programme. This supports small collaborative projects between UK and Japan-based PIs in the removal of fuel debris and environmental safety around reactor core decommissioning of the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and Sellafield's decommissioning challenges. Proposals are expected to address issues of material characterisation, waste management and storage, remote technology and robotics, sensor technology and digital technology. This call is not open to research proposals on new fuels and new reactors. Applications are expected to complement existing research projects funded under previous phases of the UK Japan civil nuclear energy programme. Applications must be collaborative between UK-based researchers and Japan-based researchers. Investigators must be academic employees, at lecturer level or equivalent, of an eligible organisation and must be resident in the UK. PIs should normally hold a permanent post but fixed-term employees may be eligible. All UK HEIs or research organisations that receive grant funding from one of the UK higher education funding bodies are eligible. Up to £1 million is available over 30 months to fund two projects to support the UK components. MEXT funds the Japan component of the project.
