Andrea Parisi (Life Sciences, University of Warwick): A brief dive into the modelling of infectious diseases
Abstract: The recent COVID-19 pandemic has put infectious disease modelling in the spotlight. Several advances occurred in the field have permitted to build sophisticated models leading to accurate predictive capabilities that have been used to analyse and forecast the current pandemic. We will see some of the basic methods used in the mathematical and computational modelling of infectious diseases with an eye to COVID-19, and we will expose some relevant (direct or indirect) contributions of Physicists.
