UK-Canada Arctic partnership bursaries

Export as iCalendar

The Natural Environment Research Council’s Arctic Office, hosted at British Antarctic Survey, and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy invite applications for the UK-Canada Arctic partnership bursaries. These enable UK-based researchers to join Canadian-led projects in the Canadian Arctic and High North in the 2019 field season. The aim is to support and further develop medium- to long-term research and collaboration links between UK-based and Canadian researchers, and to provide access opportunities for UK-based researchers to the Canadian Arctic and High North. The programme is part of a systematic approach to strengthen research ties between the two countries and is intended to foster new UK research engagement in already-funded Canadian Arctic research programmes. The expectation is that this will be for practical fieldwork and associated research, including laboratory work as required, undertaken in 2019. Applications are open to UK-based researchers in Arctic fields who are employed in permanent positions within UK institutions. Eligible themes include cryosphere, atmosphere, social and human, marine, and terrestrial research. Applications are particularly welcomed from early-career scientists. Projects must be Canadian-led and have a Canada-based PI. The programme focuses on new collaborations and is not generally available to support existing UK-Canada joint research projects. Researchers who were successful in their applications in the first or second year of this bursary programme are eligible to apply in this third round, but must clearly identify the additional value and the new aspects of the collaboration in their new application. Proposals should normally be for a single researcher but could also be for a small number of UK researchers working collaboratively. Grants typically range from £5,000 to £20,000. Eligible costs include travel, accommodation and subsistence, purchasing, hire or use of special equipment, logistics and shipping costs, specific training and permit and access costs.
