Export as iCalendar

The Royal Society, in partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences, National Council of State Research Support Foundations (CONFAP) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), invites applications for the Newton advanced fellowships – Brazil and Turkey. These provide established researchers based in Brazil and Turkey with an opportunity to develop the research strengths and capabilities of their research group through training, collaboration and reciprocal visits with a UK partner. Fellowships support researchers working on a subject within the natural sciences, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics, clinical or patient-oriented research. The objectives are to: •support the development of a well-trained research community who can contribute to advancing economic development and social welfare of the partner country by transferring new skills and creating new knowledge; •strengthen research excellence in partner countries by supporting promising independent, early to mid-career researchers, and their research groups and networks; •establish long-term links between research groups and networks in partner countries and the UK to ensure that improvements in research capacity are sustainable in the longer term. Researchers based in Brazil or Turkey must have completed a PhD or equivalent research experience and must hold a permanent or fixed-term contract in a university, academic research organisation, publicly funded or non-profit research institution that spans the duration of the project. They must have no more than 15 years of postdoctoral research experience. Co-applicants must be independent academic researchers based in the UK with a permanent or fixed term contract in a university or eligible research organisation for the duration of the project. Collaborations should focus on a single project. Fellowships are worth up to £37,000 per year for up to two years and provide a salary top up, research support, travel and subsistence and training.
