Export as iCalendar

*** This opportunity will be available soon. The next call is expected to open in January 2021. The following information is subject to change. *** The Royal Society, under the Global Challenges Research Fund, invites applications for its international collaboration awards. These support collaboration between research groups in the UK and overseas, with a view to support work on global challenges and problems facing developing countries. The aims are to: •support the development of sustainable collaborative partnerships between researchers in the UK and research groups in developing countries to generate new approaches to the most significant and complex problems faced by developing countries; •strengthen research capacity in developing countries through collaboration, sharing of knowledge and skills and exchange of staff; •attract international scientists from developing countries and their teams to work with the UK’s universities and research institutions; •support the research of the UK scientists working in fields relevant to the global challenges to formulate new approaches to global development problems. Research must fall within the remit of the Royal Society, which includes natural sciences and engineering, but excludes clinical medicine, social sciences and the humanities. Proposals must address questions related to at least of the following areas: equitable access to sustainable development; sustainable economies and societies; human rights, good governance and social justice. UK applicants and overseas co-applicants must be established research leaders in their respective fields, with a minimum of eight years of postdoctoral experience and a proven track record in driving research. They must hold salaried positions at a university or non-profit research institution for the duration of the award. Applications must include a country listed by the OECD’s Development Assistant Committee, or demonstrate benefit to one. Applications from collaborators conducting research in scientific fields that are not traditionally associated with global challenges are welcomed. Collaborative applications with interdisciplinary approaches are particularly welcomed. Approximately 10 awards, worth up to £75,000 per year for up to three years, are available. Funding covers activities directly relevant to supporting collaboration, including research expenses, travel and subsistence for the applicants or members of their team, salary for research assistance and small pieces of equipment of no more than £10,000.
