COMING SOON: Leverhulme research centres

Export as iCalendar

*** This opportunity will be available soon. The next call is expected to open in January and close on 16 April 2021. The following information is subject to change. *** The Leverhulme Trust invites outline applications for its research centres. This scheme enables UK universities to conduct research of outstanding originality but also aspire to achieve a significant step-change in scholarship, aiming to encourage new approaches that may establish or reshape a field of study and so transform the understanding of a significant contemporary topic. This aims to result in bids that fold the social sciences and humanities more authentically into the mix, as compared to the pattern of the first round, in which many proposals were encouragingly multi-disciplinary but framed primarily in physical and life science terms. Applications must be submitted by principal applicants who are based at UK universities and who will act as directors of the centres. Centres may be single-site or multisite, and international institutions are encouraged to participate if their participation is relevant to the research focus. Each university is allowed to make only one application as the principal applicant; however, involvement as a satellite institution in partnership with another institution is permitted. Awards are worth up to £1 million per year over a period of five to ten years. At least 75 per cent of each award should be used to fund research staff, including research assistants, postgraduate students or replacement teaching costs. Up to 25 per cent may be used to cover associated research costs such as technical, computing, clerical and secretarial staff costs or services, travel and subsistence, and consumables.
