Innovate UK- Transforming Foundation Industries large collaborative R&D projects

Full text:  Innovate UK, through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, invites applications for its transforming foundation industries large collaborative R&D projects call. This supports research and development projects that improve the productivity and competitiveness of UK foundation industries. The foundation industries sectors include cement, paper, glass, ceramics, metals and chemicals. The projects must further develop technologies to reduce deployment risk and accelerate take-up across industries and develop new technologies that, when deployed, would create a step-change in resource or energy efficiency in these industries. Proposals must address one or more of the following themes: •heat recovery and utilisation; •sensors, controls and digitalisation; •waste utilisation and symbiosis; •other energy or resource efficiency improvements. UK registered business of any size or a research and technology organisation (RTO) may apply in collaboration with other UK registered businesses, RTOs, research organisations, public sector organisations or charities. They must carry out the project work in the UK and intend to exploit the results from or in the UK. The applicant organisation does not have to be from the foundation industries to lead a consortium but the application must include at least two businesses of any size, from at least two foundation industry sectors. If the lead organisation is an RTO it must collaborate with two businesses of any size. Academic institutions cannot lead a project. The total budget is £8 million funding projects with the total eligible costs worth between £1m and £2m for up to two years. Funding amount depends on the size and type of the organisation.
