The next call is expected to open in September 2020. The following information is subject to change. *** The Leverhulme Trust invites applications for its research fellowships. These enable experienced researchers to complete a piece of research in any discipline. Studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals and research that intends to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications are excluded from this call. Applicants should be experienced researchers who are resident in the UK, particularly those prevented by routine duties from undertaking or completing a research programme. They should be a permanent member of the UK scholarly community and be able to demonstrate an established track record in their chosen area of research. Those residing and working overseas may not apply if they still hold the overseas appointment during the tenure of the award. Candidates who held a research fellowship more than seven years ago may reapply. Candidates who have held an international academic fellowship may apply if they applied for the previous fellowship at least three years ago. Approximately 120 fellowships, worth up to £55,000 each over a period of three to 24 months, are available to cover research expenses, replacement costs or loss of earnings. Public engagement nucleus awards - STFC deadlinePrimary funder name: Science and Technology Facilities Council Closing date: 07 Nov 20 Full text: The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites applications for its public engagement nucleus awards. These support novel public engagement programmes that inspire and involve target audiences with stories of STFC science and technology, and build and sustain public engagement networks that develop communities of practice. Proposed programmes must focus on a topic within the council’s remit, which includes astronomy, solar and planetary science, particle physics, particle astrophysics, cosmology, nuclear physics and accelerator science, or clearly align to the science and technology work of STFC’s national and international laboratories and facilities. Applications that highlight the social, ethical, and economic benefits of research are welcomed. Applications are encouraged to propose novel or innovative approaches towards engagement. Applications that propose engagement with audiences considered to have low science capital are also encouraged. Applicant organisations must be based in the UK and the target audiences of the project must be primarily UK residents. Applicants may include grant-funded researchers, STFC scientists and engineers, facility users, schools, museum, science communicators, universities and colleges. They must be eligible to apply on behalf of the organisation to hold the award. Each application must include a researcher in an STFC-funded area of science or technology. Awards are worth up to £100,000 each over three years. They may cover costs such as contributions to salaries, costs of materials, travel and subsistence. Digital content is only funded as an intrinsic part of a wider engagement programme. International academic fellowships - Leverhulme Trust deadlinePrimary funder name: Leverhulme Trust Closing date: 07 Nov 20 Full text: *** This opportunity will be available soon. The next call is expected to open in September 2020. The following information is subject to change. *** The Leverhulme Trust invites applications for its international academic fellowships. These enable established researchers to spend a period of time in one or more research centres outside the UK in order to develop new knowledge, skills and ideas. Awards may be used for the following purposes: •observing and learning groundbreaking techniques or practices; •developing new lines of research through overseas collaboration; •making discipline-hopping excursions into new areas of research; •developing innovations in teaching; •exchanging ideas. Applications are considered in all subject areas except the studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals, and research that intends to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications. Applicants must have held an established post at a UK HEI, or in a museum, art gallery or comparable institution, for at least three years. Fellowships may be held in any country or countries outside the UK. Fellowships are worth up to £45,000 each for a period of between three and 24 months. Eligible costs include reasonable replacement cover whilst the fellow is overseas; travel to and within the overseas country or countries, a maintenance grant to meet the increased expense of living overseas, and essential research costs. A maximum of £150 per day will be provided for overseas subsistence.
