Newton-Bhabha Fund PhD call – India - British Council deadline

Full text: The British Council, on behalf of the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Biotechnology and the Indian Council of Social Science Research, invites applications for its Newton-Bhabha Fund PhD call. This enables UK and Indian PhD scholars in STEM, life science and social sciences to spend a period of their study in Indian and UK HEIs. The priority sectors of the call are sustainable cities and urbanisation, public health and wellbeing, energy-water-food nexus, understanding oceans, high value manufacturing and big data. The scholars will: •learn valuable new skills or techniques for research; •access facilities or resources not readily available in their home country; •build relationships with potential new collaborators, including industry partners where relevant; •advance complementary collaborative research. The UK scholars may be based in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Indian applicants must be pursuing a degree in mid-second or third year of life sciences or be ICSSR doctoral fellows or registered full-time PhD scholars studying in second or third year of social sciences. INSPIRE PhD senior research fellows of batch 2017 are eligible to apply for STEM and life sciences subjects. Both Indian and UK scholars are required to submit their PhD thesis after completion of the placement. Funding covers visa fees, economy class international airfares and overseas travel insurance, in-country costs including accommodation and a stipend and bench fees for a UK host university.

Due to the implementation of a new UKRI funding system (TFS) there will be a fixed quarterly deadlines for some grants which would previously have been on open calls, this is to allow necessary system amendments and updates.
