ISIS facility development studentships - STFC deadlinePrimary funder name: Science and Technology Facilities Council Closing date: 25 Sep 20 Full text: The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites applications for its ISIS facility development studentships. These offer co-funded PhD studentships which contain an element of facility development, for example development of equipment, software or experimental processes. Studentship projects can be within any of the science areas studied by neutron scattering or muon spectroscopy at ISIS, but they must focus on facility-development or the utilisation of facilities previously developed under this call alongside a strong science case. This may include technique, software or sample environment development which is of wider use within the facility beyond the immediate PhD student project. Joint applications to ISIS and Diamond are particularly welcomed. Any academic belonging to a UK university with the authorisation to supervise PhD students may apply. An ISIS staff scientist must be a co-applicant and co-supervisor. The student must spend at least one year of their time at ISIS, or at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory for joint ISIS-Diamond studentships. ISIS will provide up to 50 per cent funding for each studentship including any fees required by the host university. All applicants must provide evidence with their application that they have already secured a 50 per cent contribution of project costs. In addition, up to £2,000 per year per student for travel and consumables will be available. The studentships last for three to four years.
