Posters from SOFT24

The effect of 1.5 MeV proton beam and gamma radiation on reactive sintered borides (RSBs) are presented in this poster.
Radiation response in RSBs were observed to be highly temperature-dependant with the most significant change observed from 293 K 10 MGy gamma irradiation and 410 K proton beam irradiated sample.Radiation-induced changes between the incident and back-face were much greater at low temperature relative to high temperatures.

This poster reports the first results on the effects of simultaneous dual-beam He-Fe ion irradiation on cWC. EBSD and TEM have been used to perform phase-dependant analysis of the impact of He-Fe ion beam irradiation, which simulates some aspects of neutron damage.cWC samples were irradiated at 400°C, 550°C and 700°C which are within the expected temperature range near the first wall of a fusion reactor power plant.TEM images taken 100 μm from the incident face (IF) showed dislocation presence inversely proportional to irradiation temperature. Phase-dependant analysis from EBSD data show that iron carbides are the least radiation resistant while WC is the most radiation-resistant in terms of degraded crystal quality.
