Background
Mark studied for his Ph.D in the field of surface science at Warwick University under the supervision of Professor D.P.Woodruff. His studies involved the use of low energy ion scattering to study adsorbates on low index metal surfaces. He was awarded his Ph.D in 1990. He carried out further work at the Daresbury Synchrotron and at the Fritz Harber Institute in Berlin.
Subsequently, Mark moved to Imperial College in 1991 to take up a postdoctoral position in the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC). Initially, he studied dopants and defect centres in semiconductors primarily using local vibrational mode (LVM) spectroscopy. In 1998 he moved to Professor T.S. Jones's group in the Chemistry department at Imperial College to study and grow using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) III-V semiconductor epilayers. In 2007 Mark moved to Warwick University with Professor T.S. Jones's research group.
Responsibilities
Currently Mark is a Principal Research Fellow in the Department of Physics at Warwick University. He is responsible for overseeing the research into the growth of III-V semiconductors by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and their material properties. Currently the semiconductors under investigation are GaNSb, GaSbBi, GaInNSb, InAlSb, InNSb. InSbBi and InSb.
In addition to the above, Mark also oversees the operation and maintenance of the clean room suite in the Chemistry Department.
