Registering for and Understanding University IT Systems

We use a lot of different IT systems at Warwick which can feel overwhelming at first. You will get the hang of it and you can always ask staff or peers for support if you are unsure where to find something.

The following IT systems will only be available for you to access once you have:

1 EnrolledLink opens in a new window

2 Registered onlineLink opens in a new window on any computer linked to the internet with IT services

Recommended IT Specifications

Due to some statistics programmes (called SPSS) that you will need to run for some core modules in Psychology, there are specific requirements you need in a laptop.

This programme will not run on mobile devices or tablets.

Which different systems will you encounter at Warwick and what are they for?

Both the University and the Psychology Department will communicate with you via email on your new name@warwick.ac.uk email address.

CHECK THIS EMAIL ACCOUNT REGULARLY!

Student notices are on display on the screen outside the common room on the ground floor of the psychology building when you enter through the main door and look left.

  Top Tips!

  • Back up your work onto OneDrive (provided by the university) or another external storage method such as Google Drive or Dropbox.
  • Check your university email account regularly (ideally every day) as this is where the department and the university at large will communicate with you.
  • Use a wired connection for timed exams and assessments so you are not affected by any Wi-Fi issues. You are able to use the PCs in GF07 as long as there is not teaching in the room - the room timetable is usually displayed on the door.

  • A cheap microphone/headset would be a good investment, and occasionally you may need a laptop camera.

  • You will be able to download Microsoft office products for FREE when you get your University IT account, so don't feel you have to buy a personal licence.

  • Once you have started at uni you can find more information and answers to tech FAQs here.
