Fees & Funding

For a PhD in Statistics there are several "regular" competitive sources of funding for students, many of which pay for academic fees plus a contribution to the living expenses of successful applicants. Here we list the main sources of funding. Please also refer to the Doctoral College website for further opportunities.

Funding for All Applicants

Department of Statistics CDT Studentships & EPSRC Doctoral Training Account (DTA) Studentships

The Department of Statistics has 12-16 PhD studentships available for students starting during the academic year 2024/25, some of which are reserved for Home (UK) students. Nonetheless, the majority are open to students of all nationalities.

The studentships for entry into the Warwick Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematics and Statistics will cover Home (UK) or Overseas academic fees as appropriate, plus a maintenance allowance of (£19,237 for 24/25).

Funded students will also receive a generous Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) worth £5,000 for the duration of the PhD. You can find more information on this here: Conferences (warwick.ac.uk)

Students may be expected to carry out some tutorial duties. Funding is available, subject to satisfactory performance, for the full 4 years of the CDT programme. The Department will start to take funding decisions around the end of November. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to apply in the Autumn for a start the following year. Whilst we accept applications up to June, funding is often exhausted much earlier in the admissions cycle.

Funding for International Applicants

Chancellor's International Scholarships

All International students should consider applying for these scholarships unless they already have a guaranteed source of funding. Approximately 25 Chancellor's International Scholarships will be awarded to the most outstanding international doctoral applicants to Warwick across the University.

The scholarships will cover full overseas tuition fees, academic fees plus a maintenance stipend in line with basic RCUK rates.

Please read the guidelines on applying for the Chancellor's Scholarships before completing your application. The Department can only nominate a limited number of candidates. To be considered for nomination you are strongly advised to apply by 16th November 2023, and certainly before 30th November 2023. This is so that we can provide support to help you with your application.
