Seminars & Workshops
Our students have access to numerous reading groups, seminars – both within the Statistics Department and across other departmentsLink opens in a new window, workshops and conference – both around the UK and internationallyLink opens in a new window, that enhance their training and allow them to build an international network in their research area.
Moreover, the University has a thriving research environment led by the Doctoral CollegeLink opens in a new window.
Some of these are noted below:
Regular Seminars & Reading Groups
There are over 15 Seminars & Reading Groups based in the Department of Statistics and related departments which meet regularly throughout the year (normally weekly or fortnightly), discussing cutting edge research topics. These are open to everybody, and PhD students are particularly encouraged to take part.
PhD students can also organise their own Reading Groups. Examples of past student-led Reading Groups include:
- Empirical Process Theory
- Machine Learning & Optimisation
- Non-local Branching Markov Processes
Young Researchers' Meeting (YRM)
The Young Researchers' Meeting (YRM) takes place weekly during term time and gives students the opportunity to practice presentations and talk about their work in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Gregynog Departmental Conference
Each year the PGR students, alongside the academics within Statistics, organise a conference at Gregynog Hall in Wales.
The conference provides the opportunity to debate issues relevant to the discipline and share research progress and ideas in a tranquil and secluded setting in the Welsh countryside.
Departmental Initiatives
Special departmental initiatives promote research and interaction in broad major areas and provide the Department's PhD students with a wide variety of academic resources, including sustained programmes of research seminars and international workshops.
Here are some of the initiatives at Warwick Statistics:
