Optional Modules
In addition to the core modules, students have access to a number of optional modules that further enhance their training.
Please note that any additional training is subject to approval by the CDT director, and the leaders/organisers of the module/course/workshop.
The purpose of this additional training is either to provide a broader education or to support learning outcomes of core modules and/or the first-year project.
Statistics Modules
In addition to the core modules, students can enrol on any of the existing modules offered by the Department of Statistics from our current MSc programmes.
Examples of MSc-level modules in 23/24 include:
- Advanced Trading Strategies
- Applications of Stochastic Calculus in Finance
- Monte Carlo Methods
- Statistical Learning and Big Data
- Brownian Motion
- Medical Statistics with Advanced Topics
Academy for PhD Training in Statistics (APTS)
The Academy for PhD Training in Statistics is a collaboration between the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick and major UK statistics research groups, organising courses for first-year PhD students in statistics and applied probability nationally.
The intention of APTS is to provide courses which will be attractive and relevant to the research preparation and background education of all statistics and probability PhD students in the UK.

- Taught Course Centre (TCC) ModulesLink opens in a new window (modules are subject to change each year). The TCC is a collaboration between the Mathematics Departments at the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Imperial, Oxford, Warwick and Swansea. The TCC also collaborates with other departments through seminars and study groups.
- Summer Schools & External Workshops
- Students are also supported in undertaking other modules from across the departments across the university.
