National Polymer Processing Centre (NPPC)-The National Polymer Processing Centre provides a hub for innovation and research in polymer processing, bringing together a fully integrated approach to plastic formulation, manufacturing, sustainability, recycling and circularity, encompassing multifunctionality and low environmental impact. Our focus is on innovation in materials and manufacturing processes, and processing of advanced functional plastics, high volume thermoplastic composites and elastomers.

Light Alloys Research Group (LARG)-The Light Alloys Research Group is a newly formed group at WMG focused on projects supporting UK and international partners on projects developing new light alloys and advanced forming processes. The group has a focus on aluminium alloy development and has a strong footing in advanced characterization

Advanced Steel Research Centre (ASRC)-The Advanced Steel Research Centre is a team of around 50 people (technical staff, doctoral students and researchers) working on projects supporting the UK steel sector from primary steel production through to final manufactured products. 

Automotive Composites Research Centre (ACRC)-The Automotive Composites Research Centre is a team of around 15 people (engineers, researchers, technical staff and doctoral students) working on projects supporting the UK composites sector from development of sheet moulding compounds from constituent materials through to final manufacture and testing of composite components for structural applications.

Digital Lifecycle Management (DLM)-The Digital Lifecycle Management group is a research group of around 15 people including PhD students, researchers and technical staff. The group has a focus on remote laser welding, working across digital design and manufacturing, process monitoring and control, and industrial systems with one ultimate goal – to achieve a ‘right-first-time’ capability.

Additive Manufacturing (AM)–The Additive Manufacturing group supports high value manufacturing sectors by exploring the development of new higher performance materials and products, at lower cost and reduced lead times. Also known as 3D printing, additive layer manufacturing technologies enable the efficient manufacture of products.

Polymer Nanocomposites (PN)–Our nanocomposites capability encompasses both fundamental and applied research to manufacture innovative polymers, nanocomposites and devices with unique properties and tailored functionality. The breadth of industry applications includes telecommunications, electronics, packaging, energy, transportation, and security.
