Job title: Digital Healthcare Science Degree Apprentice
Organisation: Prior's Court
Course: Digital Healthcare Science

Why did you decide to do a degree apprenticeship?

The opportunity to study at a degree level standard whilst learning new skills in the workplace seemed an invaluable experience, and so far, has been even greater than I expected.

What interests you about Digital Healthcare

Until now the gap between digital technology and healthcare professionals hasn’t effectively been bridged. Being a part of this innovative new programme allows you to help shape and grow the subject.

Briefly describe your role

Currently I am working across a variety of placements to learn about the structure and dynamic of Prior's Court, to understand where digital healthcare could be further implemented. It’s been brilliant to have the opportunity to work with a range of young people with such individual personality traits and characteristics. In the upcoming weeks we will be working closely with the Prior Insight team, who have developed the digital healthcare system for Prior's Court.

What are you looking forward to?

It’s impossible to pick one specific part about the degree that interests me the most. As it is a fusion science, what interests me is how the combination of physiological, sociological and psychological approaches are looked at holistically. From taking a holistic approach to patient care it is then possible to implement digital healthcare technologies. Working with Priors Court, I’m looking forward to being able to help implement the content we have learned in the degree to improve the lives of the young people.

What’s the best piece of advice you could give someone thinking about doing a degree apprenticeship?

It’s without a doubt the best way to study a degree and gain workplace experience simultaneously, however if you’re looking for the usual university experience it may not be the right path. The lifestyle is more like a job with increments of study than a degree with work placements. You have to be organised and have a good work ethic, as you need to delegate your time effectively to succeed in both the degree and your workplace.
