Job title: Operations Manager
Organisation: Amazon
Course: Senior Leader Programme

What made you want to study for a Part-Time Postgraduate programme?

I’ve always wanted to do a Master’s and this was the first programme of its type as part of the apprenticeship programme at Amazon. It seemed very relevant to my role of Operations Manager so I applied. My main role is to manage Outbound Operations within Customer Fulfilment. We pick and pack items for the customer, ensuring we meet the delivery promise. On any one shift we can be leading teams of over 400 people.

What have you enjoyed the most about your studies?

The best part is the quality of the teaching staff – they have varied backgrounds, different styles and are very engaging and interesting. It’s a great opportunity to learn from them. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with other colleagues from different parts of the business and share experiences and challenges.

The most useful module so far has been Intelligent Organisations at Work as it was forward looking and very much fits with the Amazon’s vision. The work-based projects have also nicely fitted into my work.

On completion of your course, how do you see this helping your career opportunities?

I hope to progress within Amazon. This is an investment by Amazon into its people and supporting us to progress our careers within the company.

What’s the best piece of advice you could give someone thinking about doing a degree apprenticeship?

I would say keep an open mind. You have to get back into academic thinking and approaches, but go with it and you will benefit. We are well supported at work but you also need to think about your workload as it is a big commitment, but one I think is worth it.
