"The skills which I learnt at WMG are being used not only in my job, but in my day-to-day life too!"

My WMG SCLM (2019-2020) experience as an International student from India

Why did you choose to study for your MSc in SCLM at WMG?

I had offers from 8 different universities from the UK, but I decided to study and learn from the brightest minds coming from different parts of the world. My prior experience was of 6 years in Oil and gas industry where I worked with different clients and handing their day-to-day operations and projects. I thought of learning supply chain and logistics in depth from the best faculty and guest lecturers which WMG has. WMG’s SCLM course had a very interesting course structure focusing on nine modules and one dissertation project where theoretical and practical aspects could be covered. I was offered a scholarship too for studying the SCLM course.

Did the course meet your expectations?

The course was beyond my expectations. All the nine modules were very detailed and very interactive. Most of them had simulations where we were given real world challenges and we need to solve the problem as a team. It helped me develop my leadership skills, listening skills and to be more responsible in every task I undertook. I also had a wonderful opportunity to visit British Gas, Rockwell automation and JLR plants to see their offices and daily operations. I also could network with lots of students which really is helping me now also since I am in touch with most of them. Although the course was very rigorous and challenging, but I would say it to be very rewarding too in terms of personal and professional growth.

How was your dissertation experience?

Dr. Roger Woodman was my supervisor for my dissertation topic “ What will be the role of autonomous delivery robots in the UK last mile logistics?” I highlighted the benefits and challenges of these autonomous robots by undertaking semi- structured interviews with industry experts and designed a survey in Qualtrics to understand different perspectives of people in adopting this new technology. I got very good support from my supervisor, Research methodology team (Lauren and Maryam) and I recommended few new areas where these robots could be deployed in future such as in campus areas and city centres in different parts of the UK. Writing a 20000 words dissertation was very amazing and I really enjoyed researching a lot about this innovative topic in the library.

What are doing since achieving your Master's degree?

As soon as the course finished in September 2020, I came back to India because I always wanted to work in my country, and I passed with Merit in November 2020 for which I am really very proud. I joined Decathlon Sport India in January 2021 and currently working with their Pune Store in E-commerce department as a Sport Leader managing their online orders, picking, packing, and dispatching them timely. Additionally, I am also a B2B leader working with different sports academies, schools and corporates making our sports accessible to them. I can proudly say that the lessons I learnt in my Storage and Warehouse, Procurement and Inventory management modules are being used in my daily job for inventory management, improving efficiency and productivity during picking and packing etc. I am thankful to each staff member from WMG, faculty, guest lecturers for giving me the right amount of knowledge so that I can put that in practice every day.

What advice would you give to future students?

I would say that just explore yourselves when you join WMG because it is a very big ocean with lots of opportunities for learning and developing skills. Take part in workshops, sports, career fairs, social work etc and build a good network. Enjoy your one year because this is the only chance you get to meet people from different parts of the world. Understand their culture and share yours too. Make the most of the time because this one-year wont again come in your life.
