Information Modelling and Systems Analysis

This module provides the necessary IT background for using information sources across an organisation.

This includes the techniques used in systems modelling and analysis, the techniques used to develop system architectures and link user requirements to system specifications. You may already know some of the subject areas but here we will also be showing how they can be used together to understand and exploit existing data resources in an organisation and to develop new data and information resources.

You will develop skills in using commercial UML and XML software tools.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • model data and processes using techniques at the forefront of current best practice
  • capture system requirements in a systematic manner
  • work independently in following a formal methodology to develop system architectures
  • develop database designs

This module is assessed by a post-module assignment. The learning will be used throughout the remainder of the course.
