The CyberWomen@Warwick Initative

CyberWomen@WarwickLink opens in a new window is a branch of CyberWomen Groups and is a student-led initiative, created by staff and students in WMG all passionate about inspiring more women into the industry, promoting inclusivity and positive change within STEM. We hold events such as conferences, webinars, and workshops to engage with students and professionals alike, as well as working closely with local schools to promote careers in technology at a younger age.

Elise Ghent: President

Hello, I'm Elise, a second-year Cyber Security student and the President of the CyberWomen@Warwick branch. Being part of this amazing team, I'm particularly excited about empowering girls, inspiring and encouraging them to explore the exciting world of cybersecurity. Leading CyberWomen@Warwick is an incredible privilege, and I can't wait to witness the positive impact we'll create together!

Rosie Marlton: Vice President & Events Coordinator

Hello! My name is Rosie and I am a second-year Cyber Security student and Vice President/Events Coordinator for CyberWomen@Warwick. I have loved being a part of the CyberWomen@Warwick team over the past year and watching it grow into something amazing! Gender diversity in cyber is something that the whole team is really passionate about - being able to showcase so many successful women in cyber-security is really important and I am so excited to see what we do in the future.

Sarah Tipper: Vice President & Business Communications Officer

I'm Sarah, a second-year cyber security student at the University of Warwick and Vice President/Business Communications Officer of the CyberWomen@Warwick branch. I have a passion for all things cyber whilst working towards promoting inclusivity and positive change within STEM.

Anahitha Vijay: Technical Liaison Officer

Hi there - I'm Ana, a second-year Cyber Security student and Technical Liaison for the CyberWomen@Warwick branch! I adore all things security and have been passionate about the field for years. I hope to help spread the word that there is a place for anyone and everyone in cyber, no matter who you are or how much ability you start with. In my spare time, I love to draw and create; using my designs and skills in my favourite field as Marketing Officer means that I can hopefully help share our positivity and inspire the next generation of amazing women.

Raffi Rizzo: Educations Officer

Hi, I’m Raffi - a first year Cyber student and the education officer of CyberWomen@Warwick. As someone who went to a single sex school their entire life, I am very passionate about gender equality, so I am excited to work with the rest of the amazing CyberWomen@Warwick team to hopefully improve gender diversity in cyber classrooms and encourage more people to enter the world of cybersecurity!

Maria Motter: Social Media Officer

Hello, I’m Maria, a first-year Cyber Security student and also the Social Media Officer for the CyberWomen@Warwick branch. It is a privilege to be part of this amazing team, as it brings together my passion for technology and empowering women and non-binary people in the cybersecurity field. I am beyond thrilled to be part of an organisation that actively promotes inclusivity, diversity, and female leadership in the cyber realm.

The CyberWomen Conference 2023 - 25th October 2023

The CyberWomen@Warwick team, in collaboration with CyberWomen@Coventry, was back with the highly anticipated "The CyberWomen Conference 2023." We hosted the event on October 25th, 2023, for a day brimming with insights, connections, and empowerment.

As a student-led initiative under CyberWomen Groups C.I.C., we were on a mission to inspire and ignite a passion for the Cyber Security industry. Attendees experienced an immersive event featuring an array of captivating speakers, invaluable networking opportunities, and hands-on workshops covering diverse Cyber Security domains, including Artificial Intelligence, Malware, Data Breach Prevention, Incident Response, and more.

Whether attendees were seasoned professionals, tech enthusiasts, or simply curious about the Cyber Security landscape, the conference welcomed all. From past attendees to those new to the field, we were there to inspire, educate, and create lasting connections.

Attendees had the opportunity to join us in the company of Cyber Security experts from across the UK who shared their insights, conducted workshops, and engaged in enlightening discussions. It was a chance to deepen knowledge, ask burning questions, and explore the limitless possibilities within the industry.

CyberWomen@Warwick X OWASP CTF - 25th May 2023

In collaboration with OWASP, CyberWomen@Warwick were thrilled to host their first Capture the Flag competition at the University of Warwick on the 25th May!

Participants enjoyed a day of competition, networking, and the chance to win prizes, all contributing to our mission of inspiring more individuals to pursue technical fields and fostering diversity in the cybersecurity sector.

The event was open to University-level students from across the nation and took place in person, with teams consisting of 3-4 players.

We would like to express our gratitude to OWASP and Avatao for making this event possible. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to Secure Code Warrior, Veracode, and HackerOne for their generous contributions, as well as JustEat for sponsoring the food.

CyberWomen@Warwick Winter Webinar - 8th March 2023

Following our conference talk at the National Digital Forensics Seminar 2022: 6 Women, 6 Months, 1 Goal, we hosted an online webinar aimed at academics, students, and professionals alike. During the webinar, we shared our story of how we came together as a new initiative and the challenges we faced in organising a national conference.

The webinar provided an opportunity to personally connect with us, ask questions, and explore how our initiative could benefit universities and companies. We have now established our goals and have a clear vision for the future of CyberWomen@Warwick. We also introduced new upcoming events, aiming to offer more opportunities to younger people in STEM and encourage their involvement.

We invited fellow students to join us and learn about our journey and how they can embark on similar initiatives. Additionally, we created a Discord server to foster a positive environment and facilitate connections among all participants.

Academics, the webinar showcased the benefits we experienced as Warwick students and how it could benefit students at other institutions. We are actively exploring the expansion of CyberWomen@Warwick and would love for you to be part of it.

Organisations, many of you expressed interest in collaborating with us, and we shared our future ideas during the webinar. We remain open to discussing potential collaborations and working together moving forward.

We were thrilled to welcome all participants to the webinar and look forward to the opportunities and connections that lie ahead.

The CyberWomen@Warwick Conference - 26th October 2022

The first CyberWomen@Warwick conference held at the University of Warwick was a national event, focusing on the importance of diversity and celebrating women in Cyber. Our aim was to bring together people of similar interests from all across the UK to spotlight the incredible people in the industry and to teach and inspire a wide range of professionals and students alike.

The day consisted of a remarkable line-up of speakers, all of whom had inspired us in their field, and contributed greatly to the cyber industry. In total, there were 8 incredible talks, 2 iPad giveaways, and a brilliant buffet lunch that was attended by over 200 individuals from across the UK. The event was sponsored by CyberKali, and overall, a brilliant success.
