Cyber GRP Events

Cyclic Division Algebras and Structured Learning with Errors (14th September 2022)

The first session in the 2022/23 Cyber Security Global Research Priorities (GRP) Seminar Series will be presented by Andrew Mendelsohn from the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London. His work focuses on post-quantum cryptography. This seminar is entitled 'Cyclic Division Algebras and Structured Learning with Errors'.

The talk will show how maximal orders in cyclic division algebras can be used to create a cryptographically secure generalisation of learning with errors over rings (RLWE), and discuss its relationship to learning with errors over modules. Andrew will also discuss the security of an alternative algebraically-structured form of RLWE from group rings, demonstrating a dimension-reducing transformation which could be used to attack such structured LWE instances, and show how one could protect against such an attack.

This session will take place in IMC Boardroom 1 at 14:00 on 14th September 2022. The session will last approximately an hour, including questions and discussion. There will be refreshments available.
