In conversation with Andy Street

In conversation with Andy Street hosted by BBC journalist Stuart Linnell MBE

11 March 2020, 9.30am - 10.30am

The Atrium, Prof. Lord Bhattacharyya Building

Andy Street was elected as the first Mayor of the West Midlands on May 4, 2017.

The primary function of the role is to chair the West Midlands Combined Authority and brings with it significant powers over transport, housing, skills and jobs.

As Mayor, Andy has taken a proactive interest in many social issues, including homelessness (where he secured c£10m of government funding to trial Housing First in the region), and launched the Leadership Commission which sought to better understand – and address – why the leadership of the region doesn’t always reflect the diversity of the region, to name only two.

Before becoming Mayor, Andy combined a career as Managing Director of the John Lewis Partnership, Britain’s most successful workers’ co-operative with a host of high-profile economic development roles that involved working with local and national government.

He was Chair of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership from 2011 until 2016, and was a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group.

He was awarded a CBE in 2015 for services to economic growth.
