WMG visits: January 2026
During January, representatives from WMG met with MPs, local government officials, as well as staff and students from the WMG Academy for Young Engineers in Solihull, strengthening relationships across education, industry, and government.
Liam Byrne MP
Professor Kerry Kirwan, Dean of WMG, accompanied by WMG’s Director of Policy, Hopi Sen, travelled to the Houses of Parliament to meet with Liam Byrne MP, Chair of the Business and Trade Select Committee.
The meeting focused on support for SMEs and exploring ways to drive innovation-led growth.
Zarah Sultana MP
On the 15th January, Zarah Sultana, MP for Coventry South, visited WMG for a tour of the International Manufacturing Centre (IMC). Here she met with WMG’s Apprentice Technicians to learn more about their current projects and the valuable contribution they are making to UK manufacturing.

Councillor Rob Howard
As part of his visit to the University of Warwick, Councillor Rob Howard, Portfolio Holder for Economy at Warwickshire County Council, was given a guided tour of WMG’s Engineering Hall in the IMC.
Here he met with Professor Kerry Kirwan, who outlined how WMG is supporting business growth across Warwickshire and helping to develop vital engineering and technical skills. Councillor Howard also spoke with members of the WMG SME team and several Technical Apprentices.
