Students inspire the next generation with rollercoaster excitement

Engineering Society 2014Students from the Engineering Society at the University of Warwick took part in The Market Bosworth School’s Science Fair earlier this month, to run a series of workshops with children to teach them about the forces involved in rollercoasters.

The workshops saw the children designing and building an array of impressive small-scale rollercoasters using pipe insulation, complete with stomach churning twists and turns. The creations were then tested using marbles to demonstrate the laws of motion.

A rollercoaster rideThe activity was run by students from the Engineering Society, supported by WMG and the School of Engineering – the students ran the sessions themselves in order to pass on their interest in engineering to children who will hopefully want to follow in their footsteps.

The Science Fair was held during National Science and Engineering Week. The Market Bosworth School organised the four day event for local primary schools – the event aimed to shine a spotlight on how the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics relate to our everyday lives, and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers from our local primary schools with fun and participative activities.
