This week, WMG was pleased to welcome Mme Luo Ping, Deputy Director General of Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology in China.

Academic Director, Professor Richard Dashwood, welcomed Mme Luo and her party to WMG’s International Manufacturing Centre. Professor Dashwood gave the group an introductory presentation and update on the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult along with Dr Nick Mallinson (Programme Manager of WMG’s HVM Catapult). The visitors also undertook a tour of WMG’s research facilities.

Mme Luo was interested to hear about WMG’s approach to innovation, particularly in advanced manufacturing and to find out more about the model for the High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres. The group was also interested to hear about research being undertaken in life sciences and met with Professor Tim Bugg, Director of Warwick’s new interdisciplinary Centre for Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefining.

Anhui, a province in eastern China, is developing strengthening research and innovation partnerships with organisations in the UK. Mme Luo’s visit was an opportunity to understand, at a senior level, the nature of potential future partnerships between UK and Chinese centres of excellence and the possible benefits of innovation initiatives and collaborations.

Joining Mme Luo on the visit from the Anhui Province Department of Science and Technology were Mr Li Zhenxiang (Division Director), Mr Fei Shuai (Deputy Director General, Anhui Science and Technology Institute) and Mr Chen Youping (Director of Anhui Science and Technology Exchange Centre).
