WMG awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award

Early Career ResearchersWMG, at the University of Warwick, is delighted to have achieved a department Bronze Award from Athena Swan in recognition for its employment and engagement practices for women working in science, engineering and technology.

IIPSI SME TeamThe Athena Swan Charter aims to advance the representation of women science, engineering and technology (SET) through six key principles. The Charter was launched in June 2005. Any university or research institution which is committed to the advancement and promotion of the careers of women in SET in higher education and research can apply for membership.

ELVIN ProjectWMG has indicated what actions it will take to ensure the Group supports women in SET (both staff and students) from initial recruitment and through their career/programme of study at WMG. These all support the department’s strategic goals particularly the Commitment to People and Outreach goals. These proposed actions are in addition to the University wide policies that already exist.

WMG already has a number of senior female role models including Professor Irene Ng, Professor Jan Godsell, and Professor Lucy Hooberman. There is also senior female representation on the WMG Board with responsiblty for policy and decision making.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Chairman of WMG, said “With over forty-five years’ experience across industry and academia, I am aware of the issues faced by female staff and I am a strong supporter of encouraging women into engineering and science careers. I am delighted that WMG has been recognised for the work that it does, and will continue to do, to support our female staff.
