Dr Steve Maggs is awarded the Rowbotham Medal

Dr Steve Maggs, Principal Fellow has been awarded the Rowbotham Medal for an outstanding contribution from a young person to the development or innovative use of materials for automotive applications.

The Medal was presented at a ceremony hosted by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining as part of the Institute's Medal and Prizes for 2010.

Dr Maggs won the medal for his contribution to the WorldFirst sustainable racing car and the promotion of sustainable materials within manufacturing. Steve teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students at WMG and as part of this role he directs the Formula Student project. This project encourages students to design and build a single seater sports car which is then raced at Silverstone against other UK and international university teams. For the last four years he has been the academic mentor for an EngD student developing the WorldFirst Hybrid Electric Westfield Racing Car, which was raced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
