Staff and students from WMG have been visiting local schools in order to inspire and encourage young people to think about a career in engineering, technology or research and development.

Continuing our programme of engaging with schools through on-site events, visits and external events, staff and students have so far been into schools in the Leamington and Coventry areas to highlight research projects undertaken through Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (WIMRC), and student projects with the help of the undergraduate engineering students.

Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions and were able to get take the controls of the Rescue Robot, Warwick Racing’s ‘Formula Student’ car and the electric go-kart from that was built for the Electric Vehicle Grand Prix in Indianapolis earlier this year. There were prizes for the best questions to encourage the children to think creatively.

Dr Steve Maggs, Principal Teaching Fellow said “it’s great to go out to schools and talk to the children about our research and what it’s really like to work in an engineering technology environment. I hope that it does inspire them to think about what they want to do in the future.”

More visits are planned in the New Year to both local schools and colleges.
