Dr Kerry Kirwan is proud to be representing WMG at a special seminar for The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) Coventry and Warwickshire Materials Society on Monday 3 November.

Dr Kirwan’s ‘Dispelling The Myth That Sustainable Materials Are Inferior…’ will use Warwick’s WorldF3rst racing project to show what can be achieved with sustainable, natural and recycled materials.

Using an F3 race car as a real world example has pushed previously unconsidered materials into the demanding motorsport arena, and they are performing as well as more traditional materials such as carbon fibre. The talk will focus on the technical challenges that were overcome to build the car and will take guests through the design process from the very beginning.

About Dr Kerry Kirwan

Dr Kerry Kirwan is a Reader at WMG, University of Warwick. He is the Director of the £11m EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing (EngD), Strategic Director of the £10m Industrial Doctorate Centre and Head of the Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Research Group within WMG. Dr Kirwan also leads the University of Warwick's Global Research Priority in Innovative Manufacturing. He is also a member of the EPSRC's Manufacturing the Future Strategic Advisory Team and a specialist in sustainable materials, polymer processing and automotive applications.
