Celebrating excellence: WMG hosts annual Scholarship Dinner

WMG at the University of Warwick celebrated the success of its full-time Master’sLink opens in a new window students at the annual Scholarship Dinner on Thursday 16 January 2025.

The event was held to celebrate the achievements of the scholars, with over 178 from 46 countries attending, and gave them the opportunity to network with peers and faculty members.

WMG’s prestigious departmental scholarships are merit-based awards, offering tuition fee discounts to outstanding candidates. Among this year’s scholars, 135 were recipients of the highly competitive WMG Excellence ScholarshipLink opens in a new window.

Additionally, 63 students were supported by over 20 international funding bodies, including governments, charities, development funds, and industry organisations. Notable among these were Chevening Scholars, funded by the UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The event also highlighted scholars supported by British Council funding initiatives such as UK GREAT Scholarships, HESPAL Scholarships, and ASEAN-UK SAGE Women in STEM Scholarships, alongside funding from a range of other international organisations.

Professor Gill Cooke, Pro-Dean Education at WMG said: “We’re proud to support our talented scholarship awardees on their education journey at WMG, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many external organisations whose vital funding and sponsorship also make such opportunities possible.”

“The unique perspectives and skills of our scholarship students significantly enrich our WMG community. It is a privilege to celebrate their accomplishments and the significant role that scholarships play in shaping their academic and professional journeys. We look forward to seeing their impact on a global scale.”

Professor Parveen Kaur Samra, Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies at WMG, added: “This year’s scholarship recipients embody the exceptional talent and ambition that WMG seeks to nurture. It’s inspiring to see such a diverse group of students from around the world come together to celebrate their achievements. Scholarships not only provide access to education but also help create a global community of future leaders who will drive innovation and positive change. Congratulations to all our scholars!”
