Expert comment on the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill

Expert comment from Dr Gregory EpiphaniouLink opens in a new window, Associate Professor of Cyber Security Engineering at WMG, on the UK Government’s forthcoming Cyber Security and Resilience BillLink opens in a new window.

"The forthcoming Cyber Security and Resilience (CSR) Bill introduces sweeping changes such as stricter compliance requirements, stronger enforcement powers, and steep daily fines for cybersecurity lapses, which means organisations without large in-house security teams face mounting pressure to meet regulatory standards.

“This is precisely where the IoT Security Operational Test and Evaluation Centre (IoTSETEC) at WMG, becomes a crucial national asset. Positioned at the intersection of advanced research and practical application, the centre offers end-to-end security and resilience assessment services for IoT and cyber-physical systems. With SMEs often lacking the resources or expertise to perform thorough in-house security testing, IoTSETEC fills a critical gap. It can provide access to state-of-the-art testing environments, real-world attack simulations, and tailored support for achieving compliance with standards like the UK’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act.

“By enabling small and medium-sized innovators to validate, secure, and certify their connected products affordably and effectively, IoTSETEC not only aligns with the goals of the CSR Bill but also empowers the UK’s tech ecosystem to build a more resilient, secure, and competitive future."
