WMG welcomes India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement

The UK and India signed the landmark Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) on Thursday 24 July, to foster greater research and scientific collaboration between the two nations.

Professor Robin Clark, Dean of WMG, University of Warwick, welcomes the deal: “With a longstanding partnership in the trade, technology, and innovation sectors, the agreement marks a new chapter between the two countries.

"The collective intellectual power of both nations’ renowned universities and ambitious, highly skilled young workforce will enable us to co-create solutions to solve global challenges and improve people's lives.”

Professor Siddartha Khastgir, Head of Safe Autonomy at WMG, also praised the deal: “Along with enabling deeper economic ties, the UK-India CETA will enable both countries to further strengthen their global ‘science diplomacy’, helping to underpin the creation of international standards and regulations. This will be especially beneficial for emerging technologies, such as AI and advanced transport technology.”

WMG already has strong relationships with India, which Professor Clark hopes will flourish further with the agreement in place.

He said: “We are proud to have an enduring relationship with India, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the wider Indian ecosystem across industry, government agencies, and academic institutions.

“The UK-India CETA will further strengthen our research, industrial and academic partnerships in India for knowledge exchange, skills training and advancing technology development.”

A delegation from the CII visited WMG last month. Read all about the visit through the WMG News page.
