WMG scientists listed in the World’s Top 2% database

Dr Saif Ul Islam
Harjinder Lallie

Congratulations to WMG’s Dr Harjinder Lallie, Director of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (ACE-CSE), and Dr Saif Ul Islam, Research Fellow who now feature in the Stanford-Elsevier Top 2% Scientists listing.

Dr Lallie and Dr Islam join two other members of the Cyber Security team, Dr Hany Atlam, Assistant Professor and Professor Carsten Maple, Director of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR), in the database.

This is the third consecutive year that Dr Atlam and Professor Maple have been recognised and included in the prestigious database.

Stanford University's “World's Top 2% Scientists” list ranks researchers in the top 2% globally. Led by Professor John Ioannidis of Stanford University, the research team has created a database of over 100,000 top scientists of the world based on standardised citation indicators, which include information on citations, an individual’s scientific research output or H-index, co-authorship, and a composite indicator for career-long impact. Based on Scopus data from Elsevier, it categorises scientists into 22 fields and 174 sub-fields, highlighting leading global researchers.

Dr Lallie said, “I’m really proud to have made this list. I have been meticulous, careful and organised about where I submit papers, and how I organise my research and papers. Most importantly, I am very conscious of connecting the research to the classroom experience so that students can see that I am a research-led tutor. It’s all good and well getting into that list, the difficulty of course is staying up there – that will spur me on for the next few years.”

Dr Hany Atlam added: "I am honoured and proud to be recognised as part of the top 2% of scientists worldwide for the third consecutive year. This recognition shows the sustained quality and impact of my research contributions over the years.

"It also highlights my commitment to publishing high-quality research, in prestigious journals and conferences, not only advances the field but also has a significant influence on my teaching and scholarship to inspire my students, and provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel academically and professionally."
