Research Interests

My research interests are in the area of thermodynamic modelling at interfaces of metals and oxide systems.
With a focus on material corrosion, current research mainly targets stability and diffusion properties of metal-gas reactions at elevated temperatures as well as modelling (local) electrochemical reactions. Due to the fundamental nature of this approach, the proposed methods can also be applied to other inorganic systems at various length scales between the micrometre and atomistic scale.

March 2020: promotion to Associate Professor, specializing in the field of Transport Phenomena, Thermodynamics and Corrosion
March 2015: joined WMG as an Assistant Professor for Materials Modelling

Dr Auinger obtained his diploma of Chemical Engineering in 2005 and his doctorate of Technical Sciences in 2009 (both from Johannes Kepler University, Austria). After this, Dr Auinger spend some time as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Eisenforschung GmbH (Duesseldorf, Germany) and as a Consultant for Theoretical Chemistry.
