Research Interests

Technical asset management and dependability.

The focus of this work is the use of models, simulations and artificial intelligence to help companies support their assets in various ways. These concepts have been applied at all levels from large multi-faceted systems down to MEMS device and device physics.

Before joining WMG in 1998, Dr Jones spent 12 years in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University working on electronic component technology and ended up as Acting Director of The International Electronics Reliability Institute (IERI), a research institute in the department.

Dr Jones is an active member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), the Safety and Reliability Society (SARS), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). He is also on the International Advisory Committee of the West Indian Journal of Engineering. He is the deputy chair of the BSI standards body on reliability and convener of IEC TC/56 WG2 on reliability tools and techniques.

Dr Jones has published over 50 journal/conference papers and is currently supervising 6 postdoctoral students as well as a large number of undergraduate and MSc students.
