John Keast is a Senior Teaching Fellow in WMG with interests in all aspects of product design and management.

A Mechanical Engineer by first degree, he began his career in the automotive industry. He joined WMG to work in the newly created CAD/CAM centre, delivering a wide variety of MSc, CAD skills, and management courses, managing the centre for a period of 8 years and leading a highly successful knowledge transfer programme (KTP) with GEC Alsthom Steam Turbine Generators Ltd.

On leaving the CAD centre he worked extensively with Rolls-Royce plc, initially on their 'Electronic Product Definition' project and subsequently on business process re-engineering and product structure tree definition research. The KTP in Rolls-Royce that he led made possible multi million pound savings. As an investigator on the UK Lean Aerospace Initiative (UKLAI) he helped the UK aerospace industry to make significant strides towards lean design and manufacturing.

Recent research has included projects in the NHS, Jaguar Land Rover and the EU funded 'Lean Product and Process Development' project (LeanPPD) where he was a work package leader. John is currently working on the EU 'Imagine' project, is module tutor for the 'Product Design and Development Management' and 'Collaborative Product Development' MSc modules, and is a project supervisor and personal tutor for post-graduate students. He has an MSc in 'Manufacturing Systems Engineering' from University of Warwick and is a member of the British Computer Society.
