Research Interests

Ton Peijs is a Professor of Polymer Technology and Director of the National Polymer Processing Centre at WMG. His research focuses mainly on materials and processing innovations in polymers and composites. Ton has made notable contributions to areas such as hybrids, composite interfaces, failure, damage tolerance and durability, natural fibres and biobased materials, polymer fibres, multifunctional materials, and nanocomposites. He has also pioneered the development of sustainable composites, including the development of fully recyclable all-polymer composites. Ton joined WMG in 2019, where he leads interdisciplinary R&D in polymer engineering, linking materials, processing and engineering aspects of sustainable polymer based products with a special focus on tailoring and processing of polymers and composites to achieve specific and enhanced properties. Areas of interest are hybrid materials for lightweighting, biobased materials, multifunctional composites, nanocomposites, fibres and films, and processing of thermoplastic composites.

Biography

Ton Peijs has been active in the field of polymers and composites for over 30 years. He received his PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands and was previously the Professor of Polymer Technology at Queen Mary University of London. Ton has published over 300 peer reviewed papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. He has given numerous invited and keynote lectures at international conferences and has successfully supervised over 40 doctoral students. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal 'Nanocomposites' (Taylor & Francis Publ.) and is on the editorial board of another 15 international journals in the field of materials.
