Research Interests

Professor Neailey's research interests cover materials processing and design and process management.


Professor Neailey is currently Director of Undergraduate Programmes. He leads WMG's three undergraduate degrees - Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Engineering Business Management. Professor Neailey has also been responsible for the development of a novel 4-year part-time BEng in Applied Engineering aimed at providing a practical and relevant degree programme for employees working within UK industry.

Prior to this role, Professor Neailey was Director of Research Degrees at WMG, with responsibility for PhD degrees, as well as for the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme since its inception in 1992. He has overseen the growth and development of WMG's PhD and EngD programmes over the years, and, in 2011, co-led a successful proposal to EPSRC for a new Industrial Doctorate Centre (EngD) in high value, low environmental impact manufacturing which now runs at WMG.

Professor Neailey teaches materials and processes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has supervised over 20 research students through to completion and currently supervises 6 others.
