W:   International Institute for Nanocomposites Manufacturing

Research Interests

Polymer Science, Processing and Nanocomposites. Materials across the length scales, from macro- to micro- to nano- with an emphasis on sustainability issues and innovation in the processes used to manufacture plastic components.

Professor Tony McNally leads the Nanocomposites Research Group at WMG. He is also Director of the International Institute for Nanocomposites Manufacturing and Director of the National Polymer Processing Centre.

Professor McNally and the team have established capability where nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene and quantum dots, are incorporated into bulk polymer systems and subsequently processed to produce multifunctional components that have application in a broad range of industries, such as telecommunications, electronics, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive, security and medicine.

Professor McNally joined WMG in 2013 from Queen's University Belfast, where he was the Director of the Polymer Processing Research Centre (PPRC) and Director of Research for the Advanced Materials & Processing Research Cluster.
