Research Interests

Dr Dancer's research focuses on developing processing routes for ceramic materials for a wide range of applications. This includes work in three core areas: (i) low energy approaches to densification of ceramics, particularly by flash sintering; (ii) processing methods to produce highly-loaded ceramic-polymer composites for functional applications; and (iii) manufacturing routes for graded materials with heterogeneous composite and/or properties. Applications for these materials include electromagnetic devices, solid state batteries, superconducting materials, and ceramic armour. Her research group are working on projects funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, the Royal Society, the Energy Research Accelerator, and the European Regional Development Fund, with industrial funding and support from Jaguar Land Rover, Honeywell, Faradion, Morgan Advanced Materials, and Lucideon.


Dr Dancer studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge with a specialism in Materials Science and Metallurgy. She gained her doctorate at the University of Oxford for a thesis on processing methods for the superconducting material magnesium diboride. Her postdoctoral research at Oxford included projects on ceramic armour and electromagnetic materials, and she was a College Lecturer in Materials Science at St Anne's College, Oxford from 2009 to 2013. Dr Dancer joined WMG as an Assistant Professor in 2013, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018.
