    Dr Bilal Ahmad is working as a Senior Research Fellow at WMG, University of Warwick. He received his MSc in Mechatronics and PhD in Automation Systems from Loughborough University, UK. He has significant experience in applied industrial research in the manufacturing sector. His research specialisation areas include intelligent and reconfigurable systems, virtual engineering and commissioning, and cyber physical systems. The main focus of his work is on developing digital engineering tools and methods for lifecycle engineering of manufacturing automation systems (i.e. design, deployment, operation and maintenance), which are the key components in supporting modern engineering processes and organisations.

    He has led the development of a number of engineering tools to support lifecycle engineering of automation systems. These include tools for automatic code generation for PLCs and HMIs, runtime data collection & monitoring, and virtual commissioning and process planning of automation systems.

    Dr Ahmad has worked on a number of EPSRC, Innovate UK, FP7 and ARTEMIS funded research projects, e.g., Business Driven Automation (BDA), Knowledge Driven Configurable Manufacturing (KDCM), Direct Digital Deployment (3Deployment), High Volume Electric Machine Supply (HVEMS), Automated battery Module-to-Pack Pilot Line for Industrial Innovation (AMPLIFII), Virtual Manufacturing (VEMAN), Augmented Manufacturing Reality (AMReality) and Arrowhead in collaboration with automotive manufacturers, machine builders and control vendors. Prior to joining University of Warwick, he has worked as a Research Associate and University Teacher at Loughborough University, UK.
