To make future vehicles, technologies and services dependable, desirable and viable, we need to ensure that our programmes of testing, simulations and trials are bolstered by the best facilities and equipment available.

To be considered the centre of excellence for connected and autonomous vehicles research and to fulfil our ambitions of shaping the future of transport mobility in the UK, we have placed substantial investments in our facilities and equipment.

3D Simulator

  • Full 360° screen 8 meters in diameter and 3 meters high inside Anechoic Faraday Chamber

  • 8 Canon projectors with VIOSO warp and blend software

  • Full drive-in capability, including customised steering plates with Sensodrive motors

  • Fully customisable Range Rover Evoque with Dbox motion base and Sensodrive steering system

  • Various software environments such as rFpro, Carmaker, Unreal and XPI

  • Customisable HMI interfaces

  • Lidar, Radar and camera models and noise models

  • National Instruments real-time platform for vehicle dynamics simulations.

Communications & Sensors Lab

  • Faraday Cage with Anechoic lining certified for signals up to 40GHz
  • Sensors including Multiple Continental Radars, Inras Mimo Radarbook, 2D and 3D Sick LiDAR sensors, Ouster OS0-123 and OS2-123 LiDAR Sensors, Bumblebee 2 Stereo Camera and aspect 360° Panoramic Camera
  • Cohda Wireless systems
  • Rohde & Schwarz TSMX-PPS2, GPS receiver module with PPS2 output and dead reckoning

Vehicle Workshop

  • XPI developer system with 3 screen display setup, Fanatec ClubSport Shifter, Fanatec ClubSport Pedals, ClubSport steering wheel, Logitech surround sound speakers and Buttkicker under-seat vibration system
  • Synology backup system for large data management.
