Our Master's students provide insights into their first few months of studying on campus at the University of Warwick

November 2021

Hetian Wang │ MSc Smart, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (SCAV) │ China

"My experiences of Warwick have been really positive. So far, I’m really enjoying my course and the strong relationship between WMG and industry. For example, during our lectures, we have engineers from companies such as JLR who come into the class as guest lecturers. They share their real-world experiences with us, which is really insightful. We even got a tour of one of their prototype vehicles. I believe this kind of industry knowledge is extremely important and valuable for our future careers. It really helps us to understand what it is like in industry, including some of the key challenges that are faced in the sector.

I am living in Heronbank, which is accommodation based on Warwick’s campus. The advantages of living on campus are that it’s quiet and very nice environment. Every day when I wake up and head for my class, I enjoy taking in a deep breath of fresh air. The air here feels very clean and fresh. Campus isn’t very busy at all. I normally only meet a handful of people on my way home from class. I do meet lots of geese and they are very familiar with people. It’s lovely to see the wildlife on campus and the geese are a well-known feature of studying at Warwick!

I am participating in a collaboration project between WMG and Porsche Engineering for my final project. Therefore, for the rest of the year, I will be working hard to make this project a big success. I’m also really excited to experience UK culture. I’m planning to take some trips, with my room mates, to scenic spots around the UK."

"I am studying the Digital Marketing specialism on the MSc e-Business Management course at WMG. I live off-campus, at the City Point accommodation in Coventry City Centre. Ever since I arrived at Warwick, I have been amazed by the beautiful University campus: it is full of green spaces, lakes, and trees. Whenever you are feeling stressed or just want to clear your head, you can take a walk and I can guarantee that you will find a peaceful spot to relax and just be with yourself. I have also found how kind and welcoming people are here at Warwick, no matter whether they are staff or students. The tutors are always willing to help you and you never have to worry about how silly your question may seem. Everyone is very supportive. All of the students are going through the same experiences as you; everyone misses home sometimes and are equally nervous about meeting new people and experiencing a new culture. Making new, international friends is a very fun, diverse and interesting experience.

I find living in Coventry City Centre to be very convenient because everything I need is within walking distance; whether that is grocery shops, clothing shops, museums, cinema, rail station… My first month and a half living in Coventry and studying at Warwick has been mind-opening and enriching. I am looking forward to getting deeper into my modules, meeting new people and, most importantly, learning about English culture: football, Harry Potter, tea, language (I learn new words every day), and much more!"

Wingkee Liu │ MSc Programme and Project Management (PPM) │China

"My experience has been very enjoyable so far, with a perfect teaching environment provided by kind tutors and employees. I also feel well-supported and well-protected with organised, blended-learning due to Covid circumstances. I believe these conditions will bring an enormous benefit during my postgraduate journey.

I met some of my best friends at Warwick during the pre-sessional English programme. If you're not studying on a pre-sessional programme, don't worry, you will make great friends in others ways such as in lectures, at social events, or even during personal tutor meetings. I spent half a day on an industrial visit to Morgan Motors. During the visit, I got to know students from other WMG courses, which has widened my network. The visit was extremely valuable and getting to understand the old-school way of making vehicles has brought inspiration for my future career.

Finally, thanks to multiple opportunities, a supportive environment, lovely classmates and tutors, I believe learning at the University of Warwick will be a colourful and exciting journey for every student."

Henrike Weglage │ MSc International Technology Management (ITM) │ Germany

"I didn't know anyone before I joined the University, so I was unsure what student life at Warwick would be like, especially with the Covid measures. However, the first few weeks have already shown that student life here is very varied and everyone can find something to do away from their desk. I am particularly impressed by the many societies and sports clubs and their events. I really enjoy going to the different society events, which range from drop-in sessions of potential employers, to panel discussions, pub quizzes and socials. I've met a lot of different, interesting people from all over the world already, with hopefully a lot more to come!

The fantastic learning environment has enriched my experience as a student at Warwick. In addition to the course socials, which definitely helped to get to know my fellow students better, the facilities that are available to students are very helpful for concentrating on work. Whether it's the PG Hub, the library or the WMG buildings. When there are too many distractions at home to study, such as the food in the kitchen next door, or my flatmates, I never have a problem finding a quiet study place on campus.

I am absolutely looking forward to my next module and the group work that is still to come. Even though it is always a lot of work, the teaching environment and the working atmosphere among the students is very pleasant."

TJP Aremu │ MSc International Technology Management (ITM) │ Nigeria

"Studying at the University of Warwick has always been a dream of mine and I was immediately impressed by the wonderful scenery when I came to campus the first time. I chose to live on campus primarily because of the buzzing social scene and endless activities that Warwick and the Student Union organise regularly. So far, I have not been disappointed. From the Welcome Week fairs at the Piazza, to society drop-ins and course socials, I have been able to meet new people, socialise, go on tours, and taste a lot of amazing food! Warwick is a world-class university, so the exceptional teaching structure did not come as a surprise to me. My modules have been delivered in a beautifully detailed way, using a hybrid structure; with the tutors always eager to assist with any issues you might have. Living on campus also means that I have access to the learning hubs and workspaces all around campus, which come in handy when you need to study somewhere other than your warm, comfortable room. As we're approaching the end of 2021, I am especially looking forward to the Christmas tree light switch on, which will take place on campus, and other Christmas activities that are scheduled here at Warwick. Most importantly I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new year holds at the University of Warwick!".
