Warwick Law School’s Dr Stephen Connelly has been asked for comment after a Norwegian trader blew a €114m hole in protections for European power derivatives market.

“The way in which a single energy trader managed to burn through the NASDAQ power exchange’s risk default fund raises wider questions about the role of exchanges in the post-2008 regulatory architecture.

LLM student Elina Rage who recently completed her studies in International Economic Law (IEL) here at Warwick, has just secured a traineeship with the European Union Delegation to Vietnam in the Trade and Economics section, starting in October. These positions are highly competitive so this is a massive achievement. We caught up with Elina to find out more.

Research by Warwick Law’s Professor Ann Stewart, supported by Dr Jennifer Lander into the interaction between gender and ageing in rural Kenya underpins a new discussion paper in conjunction with HelpAge International as a resource for policymakers, international NGOs, national and local governments, and older people themselves.

Former Warwick LLB student (2006-2009) Sharlene Teo will be speaking at the Kenilworth Arts Festival about her debut novel Ponti as part of its literary weekend. Sharlene will be appearing alongside Michael Donkor and his book Hold at the ‘New Voices in Fiction’ event on 22 September 2018 at 3pm in the Priory Theatre, Kenilworth.

We caught up with Sharlene to find out more about her book, her passion for writing and how studying law doesn’t mean only one career option.

On 10 September 2018, the Scottish Feminist Judgments Project, co-ordinated by Warwick Law School’s Vanessa Munro and Sharon Cowan and Chloë Kennedy from the University of Edinburgh, will be hosting an exhibition in the Scottish Parliament.

The European Society of Criminology has awarded the 2018 ESC Young Criminologist Award to Anastasia Chamberlen in recognition of her article ‘Embodying Prison Pain: Women’s experiences of self-injury in prison and the emotions of punishment’, published in 2016 in Theoretical Criminology. 

Every academic year, several awards and prizes are granted to our highest achieving undergraduate students from each year of study to recognise and celebrate the success of our top performers.

Recent PhD graduate Nneamaka Vanni has won the inaugural SIEL-Hart Prize for her PhD thesis that was defended here at the University of Warwick – School of Law in 2017.

The European Parliament has recently published a research paper on the future EU-UK relationship in the field of Police Cooperation and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters. This study was supported by, among others, Warwick CJC's Professor Jackie Hodgson. The paper can be accessed in full here.
