GREAT Britain Scholarship Scheme - India

The University of Warwick is pleased to announce its involvement with the GREAT Britain scholarship scheme on offer to students from India, wishing to study taught Masters degrees.

The Law School is offering two awards of £3000 across all our LLM programmes. To apply you must be an Indian national residing in India and not in receipt of any other funding. Further details can be found on the International Office webpages.

DEADLINE: 9th March 2015. To apply please email your interest to Sara Prestleton, stating your name and Warwick ID number.

Warwick Law School Announces Exciting New Opportunity to Current LLM Students

The Law School has announced the opportunity for two current LLM students to undertake an internship in India on a dissertation topic relating to Public Interest Litigation, through a joint initiative between Warwick Law School and the Hingorani Foundation.

Professor Aman Hingorani, (Warwick Alumnus) will be visiting the Law School from 20th - 23rd January 2015

Professor Hingorani has been practicing law for over 20 years. He has drafted, filed and argued cases in the Supreme Court of India, High Courts at Delhi and Chandigarh as well as other courts across Delhi and Mumbai. He has taught at the University of Delhi and the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in India as well as on a number of training programmes and other advisory roles.

In honour of his late mother Kapila Hingorani, the very distinguished advocate and founder of Public Interest Litigation, Aman is visiting Warwick Law School for one week to offer a clinical programme on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with particular reference to India. The programme will include:

  • A specialist class for current IDLHR LLM students;
  • An Open Class for all registered Law Taught Masters students.

Research finds fundamental flaws in European justice for juvenile suspects

Study by University of Warwick finds major differences and crucial weaknesses in the treatment of youngsters across the EU.

The research, which forms part of a wider European project looking at juvenile justice, is being presented at a conference in Maastricht in The Netherlands today (Friday 16 January) by Professor Jacqueline Hodgson, from Warwick Law School, who led the study in England & Wales.

The House of Commons Justice Committee held its first evidence session for its inquiry into the effectiveness of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), taking evidence from academics and solicitors. Jackie Hodgson was questioned by MPs.

Dr Anil Awesti, the Law School’s Widening Participation Officer and Researcher, has been elected as Chair of the Political Studies Association’s Diversity & Equality Group (DEG).

New study to consider the meaning of criminal justice

Professor Alan Norrie, from Warwick Law School has been awarded almost £155,000 by The Leverhulme Trust for a three year study into criminal justice theory.

Alan will primarily examine how and why different types of justice are labelled and how these labels compare with each other.

Warwick Law School 7th in UK in Quality of Published Research

In the UK Research Excellence Framework results (announced 18 December 2014), Warwick Law School was assessed as coming 6th out of 67 Law Departments in terms of its Research Environment, 7th in terms of the Quality of its Research and 10th overall.

Warwick Law and Politics Taster Day

As part of its programme of Widening Participation events, the Law School held a Taster Day along with the Department of Politics and International Studies on Wednesday 3rd December for Year 12 students from across the West Midlands. The day served to introduce the study of law and politics at Warwick University and provide a taste of campus life, seminars and lectures.
